Can write amplification be decoupled from read amplification in tiered LSM compaction?

Why interesting

Tiered compaction minimizes write cost but piles up read cost across runs. Leveled does the opposite. Is there a tunable point that dominates both for real workloads — or a hybrid layout that adapts per key range?
